Show him respect - he did to us even when he wanted a move. His wish for a transfer to a potential CL club was entirely understandable in a player of his pedigree. I wish it weren't the case but we have to be realistic.

I would give him a polite round of applause just before the game and then get behind our own team when it starts. Simple really.
On a side note as people are discussing the Inevitably of Rice scoring against us I hate this bollocks about not celebrating when you score against your previous club.
It’s a modern day thing because of the sensitive nature of the modern day fan partly stoked up by social media.
It’s totally natural to be happy and celebrate a goal regardless of opposition.
Liam Brady was an Arsenal legend but I remember him launching himself in the chicken run after he scored for us against them in the first game he had played against them since leaving.

Instead of someone planting a corner flag in the centre circle, if he scores, I reckon someone should run on, cut out the centre circle and plant it on top of the corner flag.
Break the trend and would be a first in football.

Takes the Woolwich boys shilling these days so our only concern is to make sure he gets no nearer this trophy.
He got all the praise/applauds/adulation when he played for us; none of that is relevant/appropriate now he no longer does so.
Next, people will be demanding that he comes back to West Ham when he's well past it for a last, respectful, legendary-status, "well deserved" pay-day.
I'll not be applauding him in any manner whatsoever - and there will be someone along shortly, armed with proof (PROOF, everybody!) to tell you exactly why that will be the case.

The sort of fan that would clap Rice is the same sort of sap that still maintains an amicable friendship with his ex wife after she’s been knocking off one his best mates for the past year and ends up fucking off with him..
